The sun shone on east coasters as they enjoyed a 10-mile walk around the beautiful capital to raise money for their local Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centre
Approximately 100 walkers of all ages took part in Maggie’s Edinburgh Life Walk to raise money for the inaugural Maggie’s Centre at the Western General.
There was added excitement on the day, as The People’s Postcode Lottery attended to hold a mini draw to emulate their successful weekly draws and to give further support to their charity partner, Maggie’s Centres. Angus Purden announced the name of the three lucky Lifewalkers, who had their postcodes drawn, winning, £100, £300 and £500 each. Winner of the top prize of £500, Wayne Bacon, from Edinburgh, was most generous and donated the funds back to the Centre.
The funds raised from this year’s Life Walk will help Maggie’s Edinburgh to fund their essential programme of emotional and practical support to help people to build a life with, through and beyond a cancer diagnosis. The centres are free-of-charge and for people at any stage of their cancer journey, plus their friends and family.
Maggie’s Life Walk Event Manager, George Bushell, said: “Maggie’s Edinburgh Life Walk is about life, about getting fit and celebrating the city’s remarkable parks, buildings and green spaces. It is about being together with old friends as well as making new ones. And most importantly it is about supporting others by raising funds for Maggie’s Centres to help people to build a life with, through and beyond a cancer diagnosis. I’d like to thank the People’s Postcode Lottery for their support of the event also, adding an extra bit of fun to the day.”
Maggie’s Glasgow will hold their Life Walk on Saturday, October 3.
