“Above all, what matters is not to lose the joy of living in the fear of dying”

Maggie's staff are put through their paces by British Military Fitness instructors who have signed up for this year's Glasgow Life Walk

Maggie's fundraisers had an enjoyable fitness lesson in Kelvingrove Park today ahead of their 10-mile Glasgow Life Walk, which takes place on Saturday, October 3.

The British Military Fitness www.britmilfit.com instructors will be holding a warm-up on the day for everyone signed up for the event, promising to take it easy on the participants, who are of varying fitness levels.

Now in its fourth year, the Life Walk takes on a
new route around Glasgow’s leafy westend, and takes in the site for the second Maggie’s Glasgow Centre at Gartnavel HospitalGlasgow will be the first city to have two Maggie’s Centres.

A highlight for life walkers is that they will be the first to see a model of the future centre, as designed by renowned architect, Rem Koolhaas, who was named as one of The Times’ Most Influential People in 2008. The model will be unveiled at the site of the future centre at Gartnavel. Building work will commence in January 2010.

Another exciting aspect of the walk is the fact that everyone entered into Maggie’s Glasgow Life Walk will have their postcode entered into a draw to win £500.
The People’s Postcode Lottery is holding a draw at the start of the Autumnal life walk to emulate their successful weekly draws. The lucky participant whose postcode is drawn will win a jackpot of £500, while two runners up will win prizes of £300 and £100. Mr People’s Postcode Lottery, Angus Purden, will announce the winners before the participants set off on the route, which will see them take in Kelvin Walkway and past beauty spots and remarkable buildings, such as Victoria Park, Kelvingrove Art Gallery and the Botanical Gardens.

It is hoped that the event will raise around £50,000 and the funds raised will help Maggie’s Glasgow to fund their essential programme of emotional and practical support to help people to build a life with, through and beyond a cancer diagnosis.

Maggie’s Glasgow Life Walk starts at 10am on Saturday, October 3.
