Majestic Wine staff raise £6,000 for Maggie’s in Marathon du Médoc

A team of nine runners from Majestic Wine stores across the UK successfully completed the Marathon du Médoc on 10 September in aid of Maggie’s. By collecting sponsorship, the team has raised an incredible £6,000 for Maggie's, which is Majestic’s Charity of the Year.

Hamish Irvine Robertson of Majestic Hale Barns, Sarah Chugg from Majestic Yeovil, Jamie Flanagan of Majestic Inverness, Chris Ashton of Majestic Chislehurst, Joe Burke from Majestic Sunningdale, Alex Wall from Majestic Farnham, Ben Hughes of Majestic Bristol, Paul Butler from Majestic Norwich and Will Morrison of Majestic Causewayside all completed the challenging 26.3 mile race.

The Marathon du Médoc has more drop outs than any other marathon. There are four factors that make it especially challenging for runners: the heat in the region in September (temperatures can often exceed 25°C); the length of the course, which is actually much longer than normal due to additional routes through vineyards; the fancy-dress that many of the runners wear and there are tempting wine and food stations along the way.

Upon hearing of the accomplishment Laura Lee, Chief Executive of Maggie’s said: “Our heartfelt thanks and congratulations go out to everyone who took part. It sounds like an amazing yet gruelling event and it is a great example of Majestic staff from across the country coming together for a united cause. Their hard work and determination will help those whose lives have been affected by cancer.”
