Maggie's thanks the People's Postcode Lottery

Maggie's Edinburgh, which costs £300,000 per year to run, says it has helped almost 19,000 visitors in 2008 alone.

This comes following the People’s Postcode Lottery’s biggest give-away yet, as they held their Summer Belter 2009, which landed in the lucky postcode of EH51.  People signed up to the People’s Postcode Lottery from this postcode – the area of Bo’Ness – shared a fabulous £1.5million windfall this weekend.

Maggie’s Centres were also winners this week as they received their latest cheque from PPL, bringing the total raised from PPL to Maggie’s since January 2008 to £666,100.

Marion Taylor, Maggie's Edinburgh Fundraising Coordinator, says: "The money raised by the People's Postcode Lottery in Scotland makes such a difference to people affected by cancer. The vulnerability of a cancer diagnosis extends to  family, friends and carers, the centre is here to support them as well.

"It is an incredibly emotional time for people, and the centre provides a safe haven where they can access information, benefits advice, psychological support and stress reducing strategies all free of charge, under one roof.  The generosity and support from the People's Postcode Lottery is very much appreciated by everyone connected to the centres and the ongoing support by People's Postcode Lottery players will ensure we keep helping people build a life beyond cancer."

To mark the milestone, Scottish TV presenter Angus Purden presented Andrew Anderson of Maggie's Edinburgh with a commemorative cheque for Maggie's.

Angus Purden adds: "It's always overwhelming to see the difference the People's Postcode Lottery donations make not only to Scottish charities, but to people's lives."
