Maggie's Centres hopes to be one of the organisations that will benefit from the People's Postcode Lottery expansion into selling tickets in retail outlets across the country
Charity lottery, the People’s Postcode Lottery, are rolling out their sales of tickets to UK retail outlets, underlining their commitment to help increase funds for local charities.
Up until now, the tickets have been available only through signing up by direct debit, with 40p from each £2 ticket sale going towards PPL’s chosen charities. The rollout of the ticket sales to UK retailers should increase the number of tickets purchased across the UK and subsequently should help raise even more funds for Maggie’s Centres.
The People's Postcode Lottery will start selling single play tickets from Monday 16 November. Throughout England, Scotland and Wales, people will be able to walk into one of over 5,000 participating local retailers and buy a single ticket to be entered into a weekly draw. A list of the retailers is available to browse on the lottery's dedicated website.
This is a significant development for the People’s Postcode Lottery, explained UK Managing Director Jo Bucci: "We’re extremely excited about our launch in to the single play ticket market. Increasing opportunities to purchase across the UK-wide retail network will enable us to reach a new group of people. This will ultimately help us to create more local winners whilst helping more local charity projects across the UK."
Maggie's is one of a number of charities to have benefited dramatically from People’s Postcode Lottery’s unrestricted support of over £780,000 to date as Laura McGill, Corporate Partnerships Manager at Maggie's, explains: "Maggie's Centres provide the vital emotional and practical support needed to help people to overcome the isolation and despair that a cancer diagnosis can bring.
"A very important feature of our programme of support is that all our services are free of charge. It is down to the support from organisations like the People's Postcode Lottery that we can offer this. Put into context, the £780,000 raised by the People's Postcode Lottery to date, has funded 26,000 individual visits to a Maggie's Centre. I am sure that this invaluable support will only increase due to the exciting development of the People's Postcode Lottery tickets being able to be purchased in retail outlets also."
People's Postcode Lottery's Charities and Communications Manager Claire Stewart added: "With 40p from each ticket going straight to our charity partners more players simply means more money to great local causes so more people can actually lead a healthier, more active and greener life. We’re in the unique position where we are actually growing our charitable support. The support from our players means that each of our partners can continue to deliver their important work up and down the country – even in this difficult economic time."
