    Sue Long

    Cancer Support Specialist, Maggie's Oxford

I joined Maggie’s Oxford in May 2010, following an enjoyable and fulfilling nursing career working in the RAF, NHS, private sector and hospice care. I have had a variety of roles, including Day Hospice Manager, Clinical Nurse Specialist in Palliative Care, and most recently as a Breast Care Clinical Nurse Specialist. I enjoyed the emotional and psychological aspects of nursing alongside academic studies, and have qualifications in counselling, cancer and palliative care, and breast care.

I enjoy meeting the people visiting Maggie’s, and having the opportunity to make a difference. I also make a great cup of tea (being from Yorkshire)!

    Sarah Dixon

    Yoga Teacher

Bodywork can play an important role in the healing process for anyone affected by cancer. Simple body movements, done with awareness, are nurturing, energising and life-enhancing. Simple breathing exercises can relieve anxiety, quieten the mind, calm the emotions and restore a feeling of balance. In our sessions we use uncomplicated but effective practices to bring about a deep experience of relaxation, and real and lasting change in ourselves.

Teaching Yoga since 1992, I was inspired to train to teach in this specialised area by my best friend after her diagnosis with breast cancer. “When I got my diagnosis my life changed for ever” she says: Yoga can help that change to be positive, life-enhancing and joyous.

    Kate Burnham

    Macmillan/CAB Benefits Advisor, Maggie's Oxford

I am a Macmillan/CAB Welfare Benefit Adviser and fortunate to be based at the Maggie’s Centre. A partnership between Macmillan, Oxford Citizens Advice and Maggie’s has led to this service and brings together the expertise from each.

I have been a part of it since 2009 and before this I was a deputy manager at West Oxfordshire Citizens Advice. I initially was a volunteer with the Citizens Advice but went on to work for them as a specialist Welfare Benefit Advise visiting people in their homes. Benefits can be a bit of a minefield for the uninitiated and our service aims to ensure people do get what they are entitled to.
