From Tuesday 4 October 2011, Maggie’s Lanarkshire is starting new Talking Heads sessions which will provide an opportunity to share experiences and anxieties around losing your hair. There will also be the chance to learn practical ways to manage and cope with hair loss at any stage.

These sessions are open to both men and women and are for people at any stage of hair loss from those anticipating hair loss to those who are experiencing hair regrowth after cancer treatment.

The sessions will run monthly on the first Tuesday of each month from 2-4pm.

During the first session we will look at the emotional impact of hair loss and look at ways of coping with what can be a distressing side effect of treatment.

Lorrie Forsyth Centre Head of Maggie’s Lanarkshire said, ‘Having a diagnosis of cancer is distressing enough, but then being told you could lose your hair because of the treatment can be devastating. A group like Talking Heads gives people the chance to see that they are not alone and that there are ways to make hair loss a bit easier to cope with.’

Maggie’s Lanarkshire is a homely, welcoming place where people with cancer, their family and friends can receive the support they need. Maggie’s are open for people to drop-in for information, emotional and psychological support and to develop skills that might help them to live more positively with their cancer.
