Coming by car

From M8

the west side of Edinburgh by-pass

At end of motorway turn left onto A720 (Edinburgh by-pass) and drive half mile to round about. Take second exit following Forth Bridge signs, staying in left hand lane.  After 200 yards at set of traffic lights with Maybury Casino on your left, turn left onto Maybury Road. Drive for half a mile to small roundabout. Take first exit which takes you straight on. Drive half a mile. At traffic lights you will see the Barnton Hotel in front of you. Turn right onto Queensferry Road (A90) towards the city centre. Drive for mile and half going through three sets of traffic lights. At the fourth set of traffic lights the A90 splits into the A90 and A902. Keep on the A90. Kwik Fit Garage is at the fork and should be on your left if you take the right hand fork. Drive half a mile to another set of traffic lights with the large Craigleith Sainsburys Supermarket. Get in the left hand lane. Drive ahead taking the B900 down a gentle hill (Craigleith Road) to a roundabout with a branch of Bank of Scotland. Take the first exit turning left up Crewe Road South. Drive 300 yards past Napier University and take the first entrance into the grounds of the Western General Hospital. Take the second turning on your left which takes you to Turner House. Here there is a barrier; if you press the help button and say to the security staff that you have an appointment at the Maggie's Centre they will be able to issue a ticket. Drive through the barrier, turn left and the Maggie's Centre car park is straight ahead.

from Forth Bridge

After crossing bridge keep on dual carriage way towards city centre for 2 miles. At traffic lights you will see the Barnton Hotel on your left hand side. Keep going straight towards the city centre. You are now on Queensferry Road (A90). Drive for mile and half going through three sets of traffic lights. At the fourth set of traffic lights the A90 forks into the A90 and A902. Take the right hand fork keeping you on the A90. Kwik Fit Garage should be on your left if you take the right hand fork. Drive half a mile to another set of traffic lights with the large Craigleith Sainsbury's Supermarket. Get in the left hand lane. Drive ahead taking the B900 down a gentle hill (Craigleith Road) to a roundabout with a branch of Bank of Scotland. Take the first exit turning left up Crewe Road South. from the east side of Edinburgh by-pass
Follow A1 from to roundabout with A199. Go straight ahead towards Portobello onto A199 (Sir Harry Lauder Road). Drive for 1 mile to another roundabout. Go straight across at it onto Seafield Road (still the A199). Keep straight for about 2 miles to Leith. At Leith town centre traffic lights keep straight ahead still on the A199 which takes you onto Bernard Street and then leads into commercial street. At the traffic lights for the Ocean Terminal shopping centre and Britannia Spice Restaurant turn left onto A901 North Junction Street. Drive 200 yards to set of traffic lights and turn right onto Ferry Road. Drive straight on for two miles. You will pass a Morrison's supermarket on your left. At roundabout take first exit turning left into Crewe Road. Drive half a mile. Just after pelican crossing and bus stop turn right into hospital grounds. Take the second turning on your left which takes you to Turner House. Here there is a barrier; if you press the help button and say to the security staff that you have an appointment at the Maggie's Centre they will be able to issue a ticket. Drive through the barrier, turn left and the Maggie's Centre car park is straight ahead.

Coming by bus

Lothian Buses provide a number of bus services which stop within close proximity to the Western General Hospital on Telford Road and Crewe Road.

Lothian buses serving the Western General include services 19, 24, 29, 37, 38, 47, N37, X29, X47.

First Bus service 129 also serves the Western General Hospital on its route between Silverknowes and Seaton Sands.

E & M Horsburgh's service 64 stops at the Western General Hospital.
